Card Condition Overview

Trading card condition assessments are inherently subjective and may vary between collectors, grading companies, marketplaces, and dealers.

The condition descriptions below are general guidelines used by Turf Troll's Cards and Collectibles, LLC to help customers better understand product listings. Unless otherwise specifically stated, raw cards are sold ungraded and may contain minor imperfections.

Customers are encouraged to carefully review all photographs and descriptions before purchasing.

Mint (MT)

A Mint card is exceptionally clean and well-preserved with little to no visible wear.

Characteristics may include:

• Sharp corners
• Clean edges
• Strong surface gloss
• Excellent centering
• No creases or bends
• Minimal to no visible defects

Even Mint cards may still contain minor manufacturer imperfections that could impact professional grading outcomes.

Near Mint / Mint (NM-MT)

Near Mint / Mint cards are high-quality cards with only very minor imperfections visible upon close inspection.

Possible minor flaws may include:

• Slight edge wear
• Minor corner touch
• Small print defects
• Minor surface scratches
• Slight off-centering

Most modern pack-fresh cards fall within this range.

Near Mint (NM)

Near Mint cards show light signs of handling or storage wear while remaining visually appealing.

Possible characteristics include:

• Minor whitening on edges or corners
• Light surface scratches
• Minor print lines
• Slight centering imperfections
• Minor roller marks

These cards remain collectible and display well but may not achieve gem-level professional grades.

Excellent (EX)

Excellent cards display moderate wear from handling, storage, or gameplay.

Possible characteristics include:

• Noticeable corner wear
• Visible edge wear
• Surface scratches
• Minor creases
• Minor surface indentations
• Reduced gloss

These cards remain suitable for many collectors but generally show clear signs of use.

Very Good (VG)

Very Good cards exhibit heavier wear and more noticeable flaws.

Possible characteristics include:

• Multiple surface scratches
• Significant edge wear
• Rounded corners
• Light creasing
• Moderate discoloration
• Surface indentations
• Wax stains or print defects

VG cards are often purchased for binder collections, vintage collecting, or budget collecting.

Good (GD)

Good condition cards display heavy wear and substantial imperfections.

Possible characteristics include:

• Heavy corner rounding
• Creases or wrinkles
• Surface damage
• Significant whitening
• Stains or discoloration
• Writing or markings
• Loss of gloss

These cards are generally considered lower-grade collector copies.

Poor / Damaged (PR)

Poor or damaged cards may contain severe structural or cosmetic damage.

Possible characteristics include:

• Heavy creasing
• Tears
• Water damage
• Major stains
• Missing pieces
• Ink marks
• Significant surface peeling
• Tape residue
• Structural warping

These cards are generally sold as filler, placeholders, or heavily discounted collector items.

Graded Cards

Professionally graded cards are evaluated by independent third-party grading companies.

The numerical grade assigned reflects the opinion of the grading company at the time of grading.

Graded card holders/slabs may contain minor cosmetic wear such as scratches or scuffs from normal handling and shipping.

Surface and Manufacturing Defects

Modern cards may contain manufacturer defects even when pulled directly from sealed products.

Common factory imperfections include:

• Print lines
• Roller marks
• Off-centering
• Surface scratches
• Dimples
• Chipping
• Edge roughness
• Factory dents
• Smudges
• Registration defects

These issues originate during manufacturing and are outside the control of Turf Troll's Cards and Collectibles, LLC.

Centering

Centering refers to how evenly a card image is positioned within its borders.

Many cards are manufactured with centering imperfections. A card may otherwise appear clean while still receiving a lower professional grade due to centering.

Sealed Products

Sealed products may contain manufacturer imperfections, damaged packaging, or imperfect collation.

Turf Troll's Cards and Collectibles, LLC cannot guarantee:

• Specific hits or inserts
• Specific player pulls
• Case hits
• Box contents
• Manufacturer quality control

All sealed products remain subject to manufacturer production standards.

• Condition evaluations are subjective;
• Raw cards are not professionally graded unless explicitly stated;
• Minor flaws may exist in both modern and vintage cards;
